4 Reasons why I love working at Mentimeter
How many of you are familiar with the Sunday blues? You know, that depleting feeling knowing that you’ll most likely be sleep deprived, somewhat slow, and indifferent within the upcoming 24 hours - I surely am.
For most of us, this feeling is inevitable as we set our alarms for the upcoming work week. It took me a while to realise this feeling wasn’t solely due to being an employed adult with bills to pay, but due to how and where I spent my time.
Coming to this realisation forced to reevaluate my career choices. The only way to cure the Sunday Blues was to find a company I was excited to work for, where work wouldn't feel like an obligation but an opportunity.
As a sales development representative, the role is usually fairly similar within every company. Sales development representatives prospect leads and hand them over to account executives who then close deals and turn those prospects into clients. The requirements for candidates within this field are nearly the same for each company, every company besides Mentimeter.
Sure, Mentimeter required the mandatory prerequisites like experience and sales knowledge but more importantly, the application process was structured to determine whether or not I would be a suitable fit within the company’s culture. Mentimeter thrives due to its unique culture, which is embodied in five core values; being inclusive, being humble, having a consultant mindset, working smart and having fun. Once I stepped into Mentimeter’s office and met multiple team members I knew this was an opportunity and no longer an obligation.
If you've recently found yourself browsing LinkedIn, looking for your next job, here’s a few reasons why I love Mentimeter, and why you might too!
1. Culture, culture, culture!
According to Gettysburg College, 1/3 of your life is spent at work. That statistic can be frightening but also seriously enlightening. It’s important to choose a place that fits your specific needs. If you like a team-oriented workplace, Mentimeter offers positions that dissolve the competition of commission and thrive on unity. The people you surround yourself with are just as crucial as the work you do.
2. Product significance
Steve Jobs really said it best, “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work.” This principle is powerful enough to get through the toughest times.
3. Thinking long-term
Considering the amount of time you spend at work, it’s important to have a goal. Sometimes the daily grind can be tedious, but envisioning yourself in the long term will not only create determination but appreciation for exactly where you are. Flexibility within Mentimeter allows you to participate in various projects, even those outside role specific responsibilities. Mentimeter even offers career coaching to maximise your potential and ensure your steps towards the future are fitting.
4. Have fun!
Having fun is one of Mentimeter core values. Sure, it might sound cheesy but as a team we try our best to enjoy the time spent at the office. Learning from colleagues, participating in after-work hangouts and dancing in the kitchen when someone brings cake are some of the ways we have fun. It’s the small things that will make each week memorable.
